Have you ever known someone who runs a nonprofit who has a huge heart, but not all the business skills in the world? They should check NonBoardBoard– we’ve got great articles online, and even a monthly speaker series if you’re in the Nashville area. It’s free.
I’m more of a ‘business’ missions guy, helping and assisting non-profits stateside with creative ideas, organization, and fundraising. However, I did go to Haiti to help rebuild a home for a widow a few months after the earthquake in 2010, and traveled to the Dominican Republic in July, 2012 with Servants Heart Ministry. I got to travel back to Haiti in 2013 to help evaluate schools for feeding programs. I have a goal to go to every continent, and Africa, Asia, and possibly South America will probably be via mission trip.
I’m not very handy (for Haiti and things like Habitat for Humanity I’m generally tasked with lifting and carrying rather than skilled craftsmanship), but I’m moderately fluent in French (I was our back-up interpreter in Haiti) and am working on reaching the same level in Spanish.
